I named this song Ursine Valor because of both my bear-like stature and appearance, and the fact that, at the time it was written, it was by far the hardest Invalids song. Even now after writing the rest of the album, I think this still might be the hardest.

When my friend's driveway to his new house was being paved, the guys laying the asphalt told me that we shouldn't let dogs walk on it, because, being middle of summer in Wisconsin, the hot sun would heat the asphalt exceptionally hot (due to it being black) and the dog would be so uncomfortable on their feet that they would lay down to use their fur as protection. This, they said, would lead to the dog overheating.

So that's what that line's about, anyway.
